Good afternoon and welcome back to the channel! Today marks a massive turning point for The Dahl Family. We are officially on our way to Moalboal because, as of today, we have handed over our house in the mountains to Jessa’s parents. It’s no longer our home; it’s theirs now, just as I always promised it would be.
Jessa and I decided it was time to surrender on the mountain land search for a while. Every time we find a plot we like, the price suddenly skyrockets—something that should be 100,000 pesos miraculously becomes 300,000 the moment they see a foreigner. We aren't playing that game anymore. For now, we are keeping just one bedroom in the mountain house for storage and for whenever we come back to visit, but the rest of the space is for the family. We’re even paying to have the house extended on the other side so they have even more room once we eventually take our storage back.
The biggest reason for the move, though, is my health. I have no idea what it is, but something in the mountains is triggering my allergies like never before. My eyes have been in a terrible state—red, swollen, and constantly irritating me. We’ve lived there on and off for six months without issue, but recently it’s become unbearable. Maybe it’s the goats, maybe it’s something blooming, but for my own good, we had to leave.
We’ve rented a small two-bedroom house in Moalboal. It’s not fancy, but it has a fenced-in outdoor area where we can sit and, most importantly, a second bedroom I can use as a dedicated office. This "change of scenery" is exactly what we need after what has been a pretty rough year. Life is finally smiling at us again, and everything feels like it’s moving in the right direction.
I want to be clear: we aren't abandoning the family. We’re still taking care of them by providing a large sack of corn rice every month and covering their electricity bills. If an appliance breaks, we’ll replace it. Our long-term plan is still to retire Jessa’s parents in a couple of years once we are fully debt-free. And don't worry, I’ll be doing the exact same for my mom back in Norway—she’s not rich either, and a bit of extra support will go a long way for her.
To celebrate our first day of "new life," we headed down to White Beach to our favorite spot. There’s nothing like a cold beer and some good pancit while enjoying the ocean view. We also spent some time at Neptune’s Dive on Panagsama Beach—it’s on the second floor with a great view of the water and reasonable prices. You’ll definitely be seeing Jessa and me there quite often from now on!
It’s now Sunday, our first full day in Moalboal, and we’re actually heading to a clinic. Jessa is worried my eye issues might be an infection rather than just allergies, so it’s better to be safe than sorry. After that, I’m planning to "clean out" my eyes in the salt water and hopefully start feeling 100% again.
