Good morning and welcome back! Today is a big day because we’ve officially moved into our new rental home here in Moalboal, Cebu. As some of you know, my allergies were getting so bad up in the mountains that I just couldn't handle the dust and the environment anymore. It was a bit of a gamble moving, but my eyes are already starting to clear up, and my cough is almost gone, so it was definitely the right move.
Our new place is small, but it’s clean and "dust-free," which is exactly what I need. It’s costing us about 7,000 pesos a month, which is a reasonable price for being so close to town and the beach. Let me take you on a little tour!
When you first walk in, you’ve got a cute little living area. We didn’t have much furniture to start with, but we’ve already been to the city and back in a single trip with the Kia packed to the roof! We bought a sofa bed—which is a great temporary solution because we can reuse it later in a guest room when we eventually build or buy our own home. We also picked up some curtains to give us some privacy and make it feel more like a home.
I’ve managed to carve out a small office space for myself. It’s not much—just a desk and my office chair—but since all my work is online, it’s all I really need.
The kitchen is compact but functional. We picked up an induction plate, a rice cooker (non-stick, because I hate cleaning those old ones!), and a water heater. We also have an older fridge that we brought from the mountain.
One of the things I love most about this place is the outdoor space. I’ve set up a small table and a couple of chairs outside under the roof. Since we don't have room for a dining table inside, this is our spot for family meals when the weather is nice. It’s also where I come to relax with a beer or a coffee and listen to my podcasts at the end of the day.
We did have a few technical hurdles to jump. The internet signal here is strong but keeps dropping out, so I had to spend some time messing with the antenna. For now, we’re using a 100-peso weekly Wi-Fi voucher, which is enough for Netflix and uploading videos, though not quite stable enough for a livestream.
The best news of the day, though, wasn't the house—it was the math. Jessa and I sat down and realized we’ve paid down way more of our debt than we thought. We’re down to about 380,000 pesos left, and if things keep going well, we could have most of that cleared in the next three months!
