While exploring the beautiful island of Siquijor, Jessa and I decided to stop by Betsy’s Grill in San Juan to try out their burgers.
As a quick heads-up, it has been approximately 3 months since our trip to Siquijor at the time of writing this review. The burgers have a lot of potential, but unfortunately, the flavor profile didn't quite hit the mark for us during our visit.
The Burgers
Both burgers had a very heavy, overpowering butter taste that quickly became a bit too rich and overwhelming to finish. Additionally, the Smoked Burger missed that rich, deep smoky flavor we were hoping for—there was barely a faint hint of it.
How It Could Be Great
We really want to see local spots thrive, and with a few minor adjustments, these burgers could be fantastic! If the kitchen switches to using standard cooking oil for grilling where appropriate, sources a higher-quality brand of butter for finishing, and upgrades their cheese, the food would easily be a winner.
The Verdict
Sadly, it just wasn't the meal for us this time around, and we didn't quite enjoy it. However, island kitchens can change up their recipes and staff over time. With a few small ingredient tweaks, Betsy's Grill could easily turn these into top-tier island burgers!
