Years ago, I did an epic road trip driving all the way from the far south to the far north of the Philippines, crossing every island on the route. During that massive journey, I drove right through Samar and Leyte. It was an incredible drive, but because I only passed through back then, I never got to properly slow down and explore what these two massive islands have to offer 🗺️.

We want to build up the Eastern Visayas section here on VibePinas, and since my quick road-trip memories are years old, I need your help! Samar and Leyte are famous for rugged coastlines, massive cave systems, and historical landmarks like the San Juanico Bridge, but we want to know what the travel and expat reality is like there today🏝️.

If you live in Samar or Leyte, or have traveled there recently, please create a post and share your experiences:
  • Road Trip Conditions: For the drivers out there, how is the Maharlika Highway looking these days? Are the roads well-maintained between Tacloban, Allen, and the southern ports?
  • Must-Visit Destinations: Where should travelers actually stop? Is Kalanggaman Island, Cuatro Islas, or Sambawan Island at the top of your list right now?
  • The Vibe in the Cities: How are places like Tacloban City or Ormoc looking lately for food, accommodations, and overall livability?
  • Off-the-Beaten-Path: Samar is famous for adventure—has anyone done the extreme cave tours in Calbiga or explored the wild beaches of Pacific Samar?
If you have any tips, warnings, or favorite spots from your own travels through Eastern Visayas, start a thread and let us know! 🗺️
