It’s Valentine’s Day, and honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of these highly commercialized holidays. I’m more of an "it’s the thought that counts" kind of guy. You don’t need to go nuts with expensive presents; a small gesture goes a long way. But you do it for the love of your life, right? Jessa was still fast asleep when I started my day at 4:00 AM—she is definitely not a morning person—so I had plenty of time to get everything ready for her.
My plan was simple but thoughtful: coffee (the elixir of life, obviously), a nice breakfast, some gifts, and some quality time together. Since my Philippine cooking skills are, let’s be honest, garbage, I skipped the kitchen and headed to a local carinderia to buy a proper breakfast. I also picked up some roses and chocolates, but the "main" gift was something a bit more practical.
I bought Jessa a small computer table on wheels. It’s not romantic in the traditional sense, but it was something she really needed. With Liam growing so fast, he can now reach her equipment on the bar where she used to work. She was constantly having to move her computer, mouse, and mousepad back and forth between the balcony and the inside, or hide it all under the bed. Now, she has a portable workstation she can roll to whichever room she’s in, and when she’s done, she can just lock it away in the guest room. Making her life a little easier is my kind of romantic gesture.
By 9:30 AM, it was time to wake the "sleeping beauty." I blindfolded her and led her to her new desk. She was so surprised she didn't even have the patience to keep the blindfold on for the full reveal! After she checked out the desk, I served her the breakfast I’d "prepared" (by which I mean, I prepared the coffee and bought the rest). It was actually the first time we’d had a proper sit-down breakfast like that in our "old world," as Jessa calls it.
The weather was great, even if a bit cloudy, so we decided to take Liam swimming. The waves were a bit big, but Liam—the "big boss man"—wasn't scared at all. He thinks big waves are hilarious. It was a nice way to spend the morning before Jessa headed off for some "me time" to get her nails done. While she was away, Liam and I just hung out in the office, playing with his dinosaurs and watching some TV.
We wrapped up the day with an all-you-can-eat buffet in Ginatilan. At 300 pesos each, it was a bit carb-heavy and simple, but the company was what mattered. Liam decided to eat exactly zero, so we had to feed him again when we got home. I had a San Mig Light, Jessa had her Sprites, and we just enjoyed the evening.
Interestingly, Jessa isn't using her new mobile desk to follow Liam around as I expected—she’s using it to follow me around! Wherever I am in the house, she just rolls her desk right in and sets up shop next to me.
