I’m checking in from VibePinas with a bit of a travel nightmare that almost ruined our trip to Norway. Jessa and I were all set to head to the cold north for the holidays, but we hit a massive roadblock.
The issue is that I recently renewed my passport. I had the physical stamp in my old, expired passport, and I assumed that having my valid ACR card—which clearly states my status—would be enough. I was wrong. In the Philippines, the system requires that the physical stamp be "restamped" into your new passport by the Bureau of Immigration before you try to leave the country. Without that physical mark on the paper, the officer told me they couldn't process my exit.
At that moment, my heart sank. We were looking at missing our flight, losing the money on our tickets, and potentially missing Christmas with my family in Norway. Jessa was stressed, I was frustrated, and it felt like a classic case of "more paperwork than you expect." We spent the next two hours running back and forth between different desks and supervisors.
Eventually, we arranged for the stamp transfer with an agent.
Now that the stress is behind us, I’m looking forward to the freezing temperatures and the mini-cruise we have planned. It’s a bit of a jump from the tropical heat of the Philippines to the Norwegian winter, but after that ordeal, I’m just happy to be on the move.
