I’m taking you along for a typical, busy day with The Dahl Family. Our morning started early—around 6:30 AM—because we had a big day planned in Dumaguete City, primarily centered around getting Liam to his special school for his speech therapy session.
I kicked things off by being a "very good husband" and preparing breakfast. I even joked about "baking" fresh bread for Jessa, though if you look closely, it might bear a striking resemblance to the torta and bread you’d find at Julie's Bakeshop! Hey, if my "homemade" bread is so good it looks professional, I'm taking the credit. I had to gently wake up Jessa, who is definitely not a morning person, with some coffee and "fresh" baked goods. It’s always funny to see the difference between the smiling Jessa her followers see online and the sleepy, "I'm going to kill that man" version I see at 6:30 AM.
Once we were all moving, we headed for the boat. This is the routine Jessa and Liam follow every Monday and Friday, and while I usually have to stay home for work, I was able to join them this time. It was actually Liam's 13th trip for his therapy—a number that made me a little jokingly nervous, but we pushed forward anyway! The boat ride to the city takes about 20 minutes, and it was a beautiful morning to be out on the water.
Of course, no trip with a toddler is without its "disasters." We had a full-blown "egg disaster" before even getting on the boat, which left Liam pretty upset for a moment. But we managed to get everyone on board, including a few fellow foreigners I spotted making the crossing. After the boat, it was a quick trike ride to drop Liam off at his school.
While Liam was in his class, Jessa and I had a bit of time to ourselves, but the real fun started after school was out. As a reward for doing so well, we took Liam to get some of his favorite treats. We ended up at Mang Inasal—I’m a huge fan of their chicken and that crunchy sisig! Jessa teased me about my bad memory for Filipino food names, but the taste is what matters, right? Even though we were at Inasal, we actually had to make a secondary stop at McDonald's just for Liam, because when a kid wants specific chicken, that’s what he gets.
We spent the rest of the afternoon just relaxing and walking around Dumaguete. We hit the mall, did some shoe shopping, and let Liam burn off some energy at the park playground. It was great to see him making new friends and enjoying the slides. Dumaguete is a beautiful city, and it’s always nice to have a "slow" day there between the errands.
