This was one of those days that felt more like a "work day" disguised as a vacation, but in the best way possible. We were staying at a great spot in Siquijor—just behind the main town—and I was incredibly impressed with the room. It wasn’t beachfront, but Jessa and I didn’t need that right now. We just needed a comfortable place to rest and recharge before our next big adventure.
The day started with "brunch" around 10:00 AM at El Monte Cafe. We’d actually been there for dinner the night before, but I’d forgotten my camera, so we had to go back because I wanted to do a proper review. I’m a big fan of the place—good food and very reasonable prices. Jessa and I both went for some fish and meat dishes, and even Liam was in a good mood, despite having some scratches on his face from his usual clumsy antics. I joked that he’d been "chasing girls" and lost, but the reality is he’s just a typical active toddler!
Our first tourist stop was the iconic Paliton Beach in San Juan. It’s a beautiful spot, but I knew going in that there would likely be loud music playing, which can be a nightmare for copyright issues on YouTube. I ended up doing a lot of voiceover and using my own music for that segment. It’s a stunning beach, and even though Liam was fast asleep when we arrived, he eventually woke up to enjoy the sand and water.
Next, we headed to Lugnason Falls. We’d actually been there about three years ago, but back then, the falls were completely dry. This time, we had much better luck. The water was flowing beautifully, and the whole area had such a serene, tropical vibe. It was great to finally see it in its full glory and get some solid footage.
The final—and most challenging—stop of the day was Cantabon Cave. This was a bit of a trek to get to, and you have to stop at an information center first to register and get your guides. The cost was about 650 pesos total, which included two guides, flashlights, and helmets.
I have to be honest: I had high hopes for this cave, but my back had other ideas. When I saw the opening of the cave and realized how low the ceiling was, I knew I couldn't risk it. I tried to go in, but I realized I’d be hunched over the whole time, and if my back gave out, it would take a long time before I could walk again. Jessa managed to go about halfway through, but she eventually turned back because Liam was starting to get restless and wanted her. Even though we didn't see the whole thing, the guides were great.
We finished the day off with a nice dinner—I had salmon with a fruit salad—and a quiet walk along the water. It was a long, productive day, and I was looking forward to some sleep.
