What a way to start our first full day on Malapascua Island. I woke up feeling pretty rough—lucky me, I managed to get a bit sick last night. It threw a wrench in the plans since I usually like to be up by 6:00 AM to get some work done before we hit the beach. By the time I started feeling human again, it was already 11:00 AM. But that's the beauty of being on a long road trip; one slow day isn't going to ruin the adventure. I’ve just shifted my work schedule to tonight instead.
Since my stomach is still a bit sensitive, we decided to keep things low-key. No fancy celebratory dinner tonight—just simple food for me, while Jessa explores some of the local delicacies. We spent the morning hydrating with coffee and plenty of water, getting ready to head out to North Beach.
Malapascua is a tiny island with no cars, so the only way to get around is by motorbike.
The ride up to North Beach was an experience. The island vibe is incredibly relaxing, and everything is quite affordable. We paid about 500 pesos for a bike rental, which is only slightly more than what you'd pay in Cebu City. We even took a bit of a detour because the map led us the wrong way, but we eventually found our destination.
North Beach itself is beautiful—a big, wide stretch of sand—but man, was it windy today! Definitely not the best weather for a swim. We still wanted to show it to you all, though. We found some sunbeds that are essentially free as long as you order something from the owner's little spot. Since I couldn't handle a beer with my stomach the way it was, I stuck to a Cola. I ordered Jessa a Blue Lagoon, but I have to say, it was a bit of a disaster. In my life, I’ve made thousands of drinks, and that one was... well, not exactly drinkable. It’s a classic lesson: in the Philippines, you're usually better off sticking to simple drinks rather than fancy cocktails!
Liam didn't care about the wind, though. He was perfectly happy playing with his toys in the sand while Jessa enjoyed the view. After a while, we headed back toward our area near the port. It turns out we’re staying only about 150 meters from the beach, which is fantastic. We stopped at a place called "Cookies" for a bit of a late meal. They have a great menu with Italian and European-style options, and the prices are very reasonable. I’m actually quite impressed with the food quality there.
We ended the day with a bit of a walk. Jessa is back at it, editing her own videos while Liam takes a nap. It wasn't the high-energy start I imagined for Malapascua, but it was exactly the kind of relaxing day we needed to recharge. Tomorrow, I'm hoping to be back at 100%.
