Good morning from Cebu City! Today is a very special day because we’ve decided to have a "Liam Day." That means that for this day, we are doing whatever Liam wants to do and eating whatever Liam wants to eat. After all the running around and paperwork we’ve been doing lately, it feels great to just focus on making the little man happy. I joked with Jessa that "Daddy can never say no" today—though let’s be honest, that’s pretty much the case every day!
We started the morning at our hotel, Lex, with a big breakfast. The plan for the day is simple: swimming, toys, a playroom, and just a big "clear day" for the boy. Liam was a bit hesitant about the pool at first—it was quite cold!—but once he got in with Jessa and me, he had a blast. It’s those moments of seeing him smile and splash around that remind me why we work so hard.
While we were relaxing by the pool, Jessa and I had a serious talk about a case we’ve been following. There’s a young boy in the hospital who was a victim of severe abuse, and he has a twin sister being cared for by an aunt. The aunt was hoping to move him to a private hospital for a faster operation because the public system is so backed up, but she only has about 80,000 pesos, and a private operation could cost half a million.
Later in the day, after Liam had a good nap, we headed to the mall. I had to stop at 7-Eleven to transfer some prize money to our recent contest winners, and then it was time for Liam’s mall adventure. We let him play games, go on some rides, and, of course, pick out a new toy. I even found a "levitating football" for him. I had high hopes for it, but when we got it back to the hotel, it didn't exactly "levitate" as impressively as the box suggested. I think it needs a bigger, smoother floor than the hotel carpet, so we'll try it again when we get home.
We also picked up a massive care package for the kid in the hospital—clothes, toys, and supplies—which we plan to drop off tomorrow before we head back to Moalboal.
As we were walking back to the hotel, we came across a minor traffic accident involving a car and a motorbike. Thankfully, it wasn't serious—just some small damage and no big injuries. It’s a good reminder to always be careful on these roads.
To wrap up the day, Jessa and I got some bad news about the fundraiser: the hospital and local authorities won't allow a public donation campaign due to privacy laws. It’s a bit frustrating because we really wanted to help more, but at least we have our care package ready to go.
