Good afternoon and welcome back to VibePinas! Today was one of those days where we just needed to press the "pause" button. Between the constant travel, the building projects, and my health recovery, Jessa and I have both been feeling a bit run down lately. We’re in Daanbantayan right now, and instead of pushing ourselves to the limit, we decided to have a slow, food-focused day to get our strength back.
Our main event for the day was a massive PH barbecue feast. If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love a good barbecue, and luckily, Jessa is exactly the same. We headed out for an early dinner and went a bit overboard with the ordering. Our platter was a true Philippine barbecue spread: we had liver, chorizo, hot dogs, and some massive pieces of chicken. We skipped the chicken feet today—I’ve tried them, but today I just wanted the "good stuff."
Watching Jessa eat is always an experience. I think she managed to polish off about five portions of rice on her own! I’m half-expecting her to double in size by the end of the year if she keeps this up, but as I always say, having a happy wife who takes care of the family is far more important than anything else. Liam was in absolute heaven with his chicken, though he did have a bit of a tragedy when he dropped a piece. Don't worry, though—in The Dahl Family, no one goes hungry for long.
While we were eating, I started thinking about home. We picked up some KitKat-style chocolates for dessert, which led to a bit of a history lesson for Jessa. In Norway, we have a very famous chocolate called Kvikk Lunsj (which basically means "Quick Lunch"). It’s a staple for us whenever we go on mountain trips or skiing. You grab your Kvikk Lunsj, some oranges, and you're set for the day. It was nice to share a bit of that Norwegian "hiking culture" with Jessa, even if we were sitting in the tropical heat of Cebu instead of a snowy mountain range.
After the barbecue, we headed back to our rental to continue the "recovery" day. We didn't just stop at the barbecue; we also stocked up on some serious sugar. We bought cupcakes with bright blue frosting and a chocolate roll with even more frosting. I’ve reached that stage of fatherhood where I’ve realized that when you have a baby, your TV time is basically 100% cartoons. So, the plan for the night was simple: settle in, watch something like Shrek, and let Liam go to town on the blue frosting.
Seeing Liam’s face covered in blue cupcake frosting was the perfect end to the day. He’s becoming such a character, and moments like these make all the stress of the "big house" project and the typhoon recovery worth it. Neither of us was in perfect shape today—we’re just tired and need to recharge—so we’ve pushed the rest of the week's "work" to tomorrow. Sometimes, you just need a day of family, barbecue, and far too many cupcakes to get your head back in the game.
We’re going to enjoy our sugar rush and our cartoons now.
Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next one!
