Good afternoon and welcome back to VibePinas! Today is a special day because we are back in our "home" territory of Ginatilan. After all the traveling and the intensity of the mountain projects, it feels good to just breathe and enjoy the local spots that make this part of Cebu so special.
Our first stop of the day was MK Foodhouse. If you’re ever passing through Ginatilan, this is a place you simply cannot miss. It’s a local favorite, and for good reason. They have a variety of dishes, but Jessa and I were there for one thing in particular: their legendary "Halo-Halo." In the Philippine heat, there is nothing—and I mean nothing—that hits the spot quite like a tall glass of shaved ice, milk, fruits, and all those colorful jellies.
Watching Liam experience his first "proper" Halo-Halo was a highlight. He’s usually pretty good with new foods, but the combination of the cold ice and the different textures had him a bit confused at first. Of course, once he got a taste of the sweetness, he was all in! We also grabbed some local snacks to go, because you can never have enough food when you’re heading to the beach.
Speaking of the beach, after we finished our treats at MK Foodhouse, we made our way to Sheritani Beach. This isn't one of those massive, crowded tourist resorts; it’s a beautiful, relatively quiet stretch of coast that feels very personal. The water in Ginatilan has a clarity that I never get tired of. It’s that perfect turquoise blue that makes you want to jump in the second you see it.
We spent the afternoon doing exactly what you’re supposed to do at the beach: absolutely nothing. I took Liam into the water, and he’s becoming more confident by the day. He’s graduated from just splashing at the edge to actually wanting to "swim" (with a lot of help from me, of course). Jessa was enjoying the shade and the sea breeze, which was a nice change from the humid mountain air we’ve been living in lately.
The vibe at Sheritani is so peaceful. It’s the kind of place where you can just sit, listen to the waves, and forget about the fact that your house currently has no roof or electricity. It’s these moments of "normalcy" and family time that keep us motivated to keep pushing forward with our big projects. We’re still in the middle of a lot of transitions, but today was a reminder of why we love living in this part of the world.
We wrapped up the day feeling refreshed and, thanks to MK Foodhouse, very full. We’re heading back to our current base now to get some work done, but our hearts are definitely still back on that beach.
